China's national mandatory standard GB21340-2019 was released on October 14, 2019 and will be officially implemented on May 1, 2020. This mandatory standard specifies the unit energy consumption limit for tempered glass.

The energy consumption limit level of tempered glass unit products is divided into three levels of level 1 and level 3, as shown in the following table:

The limit value of one of the grades shall not be greater than the corresponding value in the table, and the energy consumption of the first grade is the lowest.

The technical requirements of this standard stipulate that the energy consumption limit value of the tempered glass unit product of the existing tempered glass production enterprise shall not exceed the level 3 of the energy consumption limit level in Table 3.

In the technical requirements, it is also stipulated that the energy consumption access value of the tempered glass unit product of the newly built or expanded tempered glass production enterprise shall not exceed the level 2 of the energy consumption limit level.

The quotas in the mandatory standards issued this time have a significant impact on the majority of tempering furnace manufacturers and tempering furnace users.

In China, the glass tempering furnace manufacturing, due to the differences in the structure and process of each manufacturer, there are still some manufacturers who can’t reach the requirement of level 2, so they need to give structural and process upgrade as soon as possible.

In terms of tempering furnace users, new and expanded enterprises need to consider whether the equipment can meet the specified level 2 energy consumption limit when purchasing equipment. At the same time, the tempering furnaces produced online can not reach the level 3 energy consumption limit due to the service life and structural process. It is also necessary to consider upgrading the equipment to exceed the energy consumption level of level 3.

For the second-hand tempering furnace that is widely distributed on the market, after the mandatory standard is introduced, it will greatly impact the previous method of direct install way, to go to the way to renew&upgrade old furnace first then install and use. This will also increase the amount of capital investment in the current glass tempering production.

In general, the release of the mandatory energy consumption standard for this tempered glass unit product will have a great impact on the design, production, sales and use of the tempering furnace. We will wait and see how the industry changes.
